Nova

A confident young astronaut who explains stocks, bonds, exchanges, futures, risk and business ownership.

Nova, the Wealthonauts investing explorer

The Nova character is the Wealthonauts investing explorer. Confident, quick and curious, Nova explains how companies, stock markets and futures contracts work. Nova loves numbers, but Nova also cares about something just as important: risk. Every time Nova talks about a possible reward, Nova also asks what could go wrong.

Nova character character illustration

Who is the Nova character?

Nova is a young astronaut with a long ponytail that flows out of the back of the helmet, a gold star badge and pink and mint trim. Nova usually carries a small tablet with a chart. Because the design is different from Captain Coin’s, kids can tell the two explorers apart at a glance, even as tiny icons.

What Nova teaches

  • What a share of stock is and why companies sell shares
  • How stock exchanges match buyers and sellers
  • The difference between investing and speculation
  • Why diversification lowers risk
  • What futures contracts, margin and leverage are
  • How a business owner thinks about customers and profit

Above all, Nova never promises easy money. Instead, Nova teaches that prices go up and down, that losses are possible and that real investing accounts are for adults. That is why every Wealthonauts market game uses fictional companies and virtual money only. As a result, kids can practice bold choices and learn from mistakes without losing a real cent.

Nova character design notes

Every Wealthonauts character follows a published reference sheet, shown on this page, so illustrators, animators and product designers can keep the look consistent. In addition, the names and designs are original to Wealthonauts. Creators who want to learn how brands protect characters can read the basics from the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.

Silhouette and proportions

Bubble helmet like Captain Coin’s but with a long dark ponytail flowing out of a port at the back, which makes Nova easy to tell apart in silhouette. Slightly taller and slimmer than Captain Coin, about 2.7 heads tall. A gold star badge on the chest, a mint stripe at the waist and pink gloves and boots. Nova often holds a small tablet with a rising chart line.

Voice and catchphrase

Clear, upbeat and logical. Nova likes to compare choices and talk about trade-offs. Catchphrase: "Every reward comes with a risk — let’s measure it."

Illustration brief for artists

Original 3D-style children’s character: a confident young astronaut, about 12 years old, in a white space suit with nebula-pink trim, a mint-green waist stripe and a gold star emblem on the chest. Glossy bubble helmet, long dark purple-black ponytail flowing out the back of the helmet. Deep brown skin tone, bright eyes, friendly determined smile. Holding a small dark tablet with a green rising line chart. Pixar-quality rendering, soft space lighting, no text or real brand logos.
