Mission leader and mascot

Captain Coin

The curious young astronaut who leads every Wealthonauts mission and never stops asking how money really works.

Captain Coin, the Wealthonauts mission leader

Captain Coin is the mascot of Wealthonauts and the first friend every new explorer meets. This young astronaut leads each mission across the money universe. The captain is curious, brave and playful, and most of all, asks questions. Why do we use money at all? Where does a bank keep its money? What does it really mean to own a house? Because the captain asks first, kids learn that their own questions matter too.

Who is Captain Coin?

Captain Coin is an original character created for Wealthonauts. The design is simple on purpose. A big bubble helmet, a white suit with cyan trim and a gold coin on the chest make the character easy to spot on a phone screen, a book cover or a classroom poster. In addition, the round shapes feel friendly to younger children, while the explorer outfit still feels adventurous to older kids.

What this mission leader teaches

This explorer does not specialize in one subject. Instead, the captain guides learners from planet to planet and connects each lesson to everyday life. For example, on Money World the captain compares trading toys with trading money. Later, on Entrepreneurship Earth, our hero runs a lemonade stand to show how revenue, costs and profit fit together.

When a topic gets technical, the captain calls in a specialist. Professor Ledger explains banking and contracts, Nova explains investing and markets, and Goldie explains money history. As a result, kids always hear from the expert of the planet they are visiting.

Captain Coin in books, games and lessons

Captain Coin appears in every book of The Wealthonauts Adventures series and in the free money games for kids on this site. You can meet the whole crew on the Meet the Wealthonauts page, or start a mission in the Wealthonauts Academy.

Captain Coin character design notes

Every Wealthonauts character follows a published reference sheet, shown on this page, so illustrators, animators and product designers can keep the look consistent. In addition, the names and designs are original to Wealthonauts. Creators who want to learn how brands protect characters can read the basics from the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.

Silhouette and proportions

Round bubble helmet that is wider than the shoulders, so the head reads clearly at small sizes. Short, sturdy body about 2.5 heads tall. Big gold coin emblem in the center of the chest. Cyan stripe at the belt line and cyan gloves and boots. A small purple backpack with a gold antenna light on the right side of the helmet. Friendly brown eyes, a wide smile and rosy cheeks.

Voice and catchphrase

Warm, excited and curious. Captain Coin speaks in short sentences and often asks the learner a question before explaining. Catchphrase: "Let’s find out how it really works!"
