Who we are
Wealthonauts operates the website wealthonauts.com, a free financial education platform for children and families. To reach us, use our contact form or the Mission Guide chat.
Children’s privacy in the Wealthonauts privacy policy
We built Wealthonauts for children, so we follow a data-minimization approach intended to comply with the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) and similar laws. Children can use lessons and games without creating an account or giving any personal information. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. Only adults aged 18 or older can create family accounts, and they add learners by nickname and age level only. If you believe a child has given us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
Information we collect
- Without an account: your browser keeps lesson and game progress in local storage on your device. We do not receive it.
- Family accounts (adults): email address, optional first name, password (which WordPress stores as a secure hash), and learner nicknames, age levels and progress.
- Newsletter and chat (adults only): email address, optional name and organization, and the answers you choose to give in the chat.
- Orders (adults only): name, billing and shipping details needed to fulfill orders. Our payment provider processes card payments; we do not store full card numbers.
- Site statistics: cookie-free, first-party counts of page views, device type, referring site and learning events. We do not store IP addresses; we count visitors with a one-way hash that changes daily.
How we use information
We use information to provide accounts and progress, answer questions, send emails you asked for, fulfill orders and improve the site. We do not sell personal information, we do not show advertising and we do not build behavioral profiles of children.
Sharing
We share information only with service providers that help us run the site (for example, hosting, email delivery and payment processing), when required by law, or to protect safety. If we turn on Google Analytics, we configure it with Google signals and ad personalization turned off.
Your choices and rights
Adults can update or delete a family account, remove learners, or unsubscribe from emails at any time. Parents may request to review or delete information related to their child by sending a request through our contact form. Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under state laws.
Security and retention
We use reasonable safeguards, including encrypted connections, secure authentication and access controls. We keep information only as long as needed for the purposes above; the site automatically deletes statistics older than about 13 months.
Changes
We may update this policy and will post the new date above.
